Hi! I’m Amy from LightWriter Media.⚡ I write about creativity, recovery and healing through storytelling. If you are new to this page, drop your email below to ensure you receive my posts.
I am lucky to be somebody who sleeps through the night unless I’m woken up by one of my children (which, let’s be honest, happens nightly!). But I rarely wake up ‘just’ to worry or stare at the ceiling. So when I do wake up suddenly, especially in the hours between midnight and 3am, I usually take it as a sign that an important thoughts is being ‘sent’ to me.
I also never wake up and look at my phone (I know from experience that only leads to dread and disaster!). So it was very unusual last week when I woke up at 1am, picked up my phone and, somehow, found my way on to an old clip from Grey’s Anatomy.
I haven’t watched the show for years, mainly because I had kids and my heart couldn’t take the storylines. But here I was watching a clip from four years ago (if you’re a Grey’s fan, I’m sure you will remember it).
The hallway scene…
In this scene, we see a patient, Abby, be admitted to the hospital with injuries caused by sexual assault. She explains that she sees the face of her assailant in the face of every man she passes and, so, as she is wheeled into surgery, the women of the hospital gather. And, well, you can watch the rest… (I’ll include the clip below).
Why was this sent to me at 1am last Tuesday?
I am currently working on an amazing memoir with an incredibly writer who is ready to share her family’s experience of domestic violence. She is courageous and nervous; she is bold and still afraid; she, her children and I are writing the book together, releasing one raw memory at a time.
This clip came for her.
Something powerful happens when women share their stories, especially when they have been held down by shame, guilt and an overbearing force that has tried to shrink and silence them. I’m not saying, it’s easy to share these types of memories. It takes strategic boundaries and a lot of emotional support. It’s why I devote so much of my work as a holistic writing coach to finding a safe way for women to write these types of books, blogs, pods and articles.
But it’s also crucial.
I don’t know your exact story but I know there is probably a part of it that you’re being called to share and yet you’re struggling to find the courage. Think of every woman in this corridor as a future reader of your book—an endless corridor of women who are cheering you on, because they will benefit from your bravery.
Any way that we can rebel against fear and shame is a victory for all of us.
And, if you need support in sharing your story, check out how I can help you here.

A little note before you click on the below. As mentioned, this episode was related to sexual assault and violence. Please take care of yourself and know your personal triggers before you decide whether to watch it.
